CAMRTM3 Project Thread

Sup all. So I know there are no pics. And there will be teasers here thrown around to keep you all interested.

As some of you have been following my car I own a 1996 XLE 96 Camry. Since I have joined here are a list of modes:

18 X 8 with 44mm offset AT Italia Nido
Clear Tail Lights.
TRD RSB
KSport Kontrol Pros 7/7 (Removed and one Blown)
HID 6000K
Depo Gen 3.5 Headlights
Clear Corner lens
Ksport GT Pros 9/7

Most resent Upgrade was a little more then normal. For the most part all of the above are simple bolt on mods. The most resent mod was removal of my Automatic transmisson and putting in a E153. Key parts here:

E153
Aluminum Flywheel
Dual Friction Clutch
OBX Headers
Megan CAT-BACK

All I can say about that was it was the best investment I made! Fuel Mileage went up! And Acceleration went threw the ROOF! Ask bigbird, he saw what that removal of a torque converter on a camry does to a tire. WOOPS!

Things to COME! TRD Supercharger. Gen 3 Conversion with RMM Lip. TRD rear Spats.

Gotta love the E153 - one day I will have one on my 5S build mainly for the .73 5th gear ratio.

Excellent looking car - very impressed! It's not often you see a car with the look and the nuts - usually it's one or the other

2 things: S51 and that's bigbird's car if I'm not mistaken.
The e153 is pointless unless your boosted.

Nonsense! The (S51 or E153, whichever one has the .73:1 5th gear) is EXACTLY what I need for enhanced fuel mileage and a 8500-9000RPM redline. I don't believe the S53 (or whatever a 1996 5S comes with stock) will be able to sustain itself for any period of time with near-redline shifts at times. Only trouble is finding one with low mileage. Hopefully I will have a 4500-8500RPM powerband when it's all said and done and be able to take advantage of all gears...1st thru 3rd for the strip; and the long-legged .73:1 5th for cruising 70-75MPH at ~2600RPM

Question though:

Any noticeable weight difference between the E153 and S51 trannies? Anyone done a swap and even noticed or cared? Just curious...

We'll have to see how it works though...I know I can't wait!

They both have the .73 5th gear and they both have 3.9 final drives. and i'm also sure there is a considerable weight difference between a S series transmisson and a E-Series transmission. i wanna see how that comes out though...

E-series is heavier, IIRC, but can handle far more power than the S-series... E-153 also has better synchros, but that's about all I remember...

Please lets keep the hatin down in this thread.

There are other threads here on TN that have all this information. But is you want the simple fact, for boost and higher power the E series transmissions are stonger. The S-series will be able to hold the power of a V6 that is N/A. To be exact, the power of a 3vz-fe.

ANYWAY. Pictures to come this up-coming weekend.

Side Teaser. Just pulled it out of my car and into my house. Paint and part will do on this summer.

@Bdub

OK I stand corrected - didn't mean to sidetrack the thread. I will do more homework and get to the bottom of the 5th gear ratio. If the E153 has better synchros then that's the one I want

Still wondering what you are doing with the 1zz?

@camtrm3

Where do you find the spats and what is their purpose?
