'94 Camry XLE 1MZ-FE
I bought a 1994 Camry XLE in decent shape. I got it for 300 bucks and all it needed was the motor either rebuilt or swapped out. Transmission was in good shape but the motor was blown. I found a motor nearby with a "will run" guarantee for 250 bucks and it came with a working automatic transmission. So after a lot of hours and work we got the motors swapped. Had really no problems with any of the hookups, electrical or vacuum. I drove the car home that night over an hour away and had NO problems what so ever. The next day I started it up and it idled perfectly and I warmed the motor up and hopped on the highway to go to class for the day. Just after getting on the highway the CEL came on.
Mind you it does have an exhaust leak on the flex pipe. So this leads up to my questions.
1. I tried jumping the TE1 to the E1 to check the code. BUT it never flashes the code to me with the ignition on and motor off, just stays solid.
2. Could the CEL be from the leak in the exhaust at the flex pipe? Also I filled the tank up full (14.5 gallons is what I got in it with the gas light on) and so far I have put 101.7 miles on the tank and I am down to half a tank. Could this be due to the CEL being on the also the flex pipe leaking and making the engine run lean?
ALSO why am I having problems on this model and motor / computer? Every where I read its as simple as jumping the TE1 and E1 and then reading the CEL flash code. I did it on my 1990 celica 5S-FE and it worked for me.
Any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
