Tires upgrade from 14 to 15, need help and advice

I have both Camry 1999 in v6 and inline 4 and the both cars take different tire profile, the v6 is 205/65/15 and the 4 cyl. Takes 195/70/14, from the tire calculator, it says 205/65/15 will slow down the 4 cyl Camry by 3.06% but yet both camrys look and is the same chassis..

Does the 205/65/15 for Camry 4 cyl 1999 really slowing it down or it is a bunch of bill crap?

205/65-15 is OEM for my 01' 4cylinder. It's not slowing down anything but may throw the speedo off. At 60 MPH, I'm really doing 62 MPH.

All things come into play when changing your wheel size and tire. Generally if you keep the same width, lets say for instance 6 inches and you move from a 14 inch tire to a 15 inch tire, it would normally be a + - method.

You would move to a 205 60 15 and be only slightly wider at the contact patch to the road. Concidering that your other camry has 15s, the case may be that it is a 15 x 7 therefore the slightly added overall diameter will be spread across the extra inch of wheel width.

The difference between your stock tire and the 205 65 15 is 3 inches in over all diameter. with a 205 60 15 it would be 1 tenth, being on the same width wheel.

I hope this helps as I know it can be a bit confusing when + sizing.

I upgraded my 4cyl 96 to 15" factory alloys. I got a set 195/65/15 tires. The new tires are only 0.8% taller. So, there was no change in straight line performance, but there was a definite increase in cornering stability.

Check out this tire calculator, and see for yourself.

But the thing that I don't get is that on the Camry 1997-1999 the 4 cyl and 6 are same chasiss yet different wheel size so if I use the 205/65/15 on the 4 cyl, shouldn't I go at exact speeds? Even though tire calculator said I should use 205/60/15. And due to this, does Any one know if putting 205/60/15 will cause and rubbing or it would be fine because it is like the v6 chassis? It can handle 205s?

It should be fine, but like I said in my first post is the wheel a 15x7? That would be my reasoning behind them using a 205 65 instead. from the 195 70 to the 205 60, even if you are using the calcuator is only going to be the same on the same rim width wheel.

I don't understand what 15x7 means, I just know the steel rims I have are oem Camry and my mags are sacchi mags which are 42 or 45 offset and uses a hub center ring for my v6 camry

What I mean when I say that is, the stock rim, is a 14 inch diameter wheel that is 6 inches across, ie 14x6

The wheel your looking to move up to is a 15 inch wheel in diameter and most likely 7 inches across, ie 15x7

If the wheel is a 15x6 then 205 60 15 would be the way to go.

Hope that clears it up for you
