Power locks will unlock but won't lock...

I tried searching the archives but I couldn't find anything that was the same as what I am experiencing.

I have an 01 Camry LE that I bought used about a year ago. Everything has worked fine up until now. Last week the key fob for my alarm stopped working completely, so I figured it was just the batteries in it, so I replaced them and still nothing happens.

The power lock button inside WILL NOT lock the doors, but it will unlock them. I have to manually lock all the doors. If I do this the alarm sets itself a few minutes later and every time I use the key in the door the alarm goes off and won't stop until I put the key in the ignition. This gets some ugly stares from neighbors and people in the parking lot at work.

The power windows work, as do the power seats, and lights and everything else. I would just take it to get fixed, but cash is tight and I was hoping maybe it was an easier fix I could do myself, like a fuse or something. Please help!

Aftermarket alarm or OEM system? I first assumed that it could be a broken wire in the boot than connects the door to the body of the car, but the alarm system makes me think otherwise. Hmm.

Did you check the fuses? I was replacing the top light (inside) and accidentally shorted it, which caused similar strange central locking issues for me. Everything went back to normal with a new fuse.

Worth a try.

My guess is that you have to completely take apart the electronic locking mechanism and clean the contacts. I bet you those are worn.
I had that problem at one time in my Camry, fixed it. My little bros FD3S had that problem a couple months back, fixed it. Same exact problem you're having too.
Careful when you take it apart and do it SLOWLY; there are springs that can fly out. Remember how everything it placed.
