3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Had new axels installed on my 96 Camry(4cyl) last week. Now hear
a clicking sound on some turns. This is the second axel installed last
week due to this issue. Was told by mechanic these are "new" axels.
Where they rebuilt axles? There can be a lot of sources of clicking on turn, how are you bushings looking in the front? What about your sway bar links, you control arms, ball joints?

So called rebuilt CV's can be a problem from alot of suppliers. My experience? 3 sets for my Mazda 626, to get it right. (first two were clicky and vibrated). Three sets for my Dad for the Camry. All had nice shiny new boots on them. Two sets cracked the "nice shiny new boots" in under two months. All 4 of the early onces were pieces of non-remanufactured junk made to look nice. Both final repairs took serious beating on counter-tops, and legal language to have resolved without further cost. The first two sets on my Mazda were junk from the start, and a test drive would have confirmed it right from the start. The first 2 sets on the Camry cracked and dumped all their grease in two weeks, and my experience, got my Dad Toyota supplied CV's at Crappy Tires cost. Theres alot of junk out there!

I've had good success with Cardone and EMPI brands. The EMPI axle I put on my Camry not too long ago was really nice, seemed to be a high quality unit. BTW, if you keep the boots clean and put rubber protectant on them, they will last indefinitely.
