Timing Belt problem =S

Hey guys, I got up to the final stage of the timing belt job when i accidentally lost the timing marks (it wasn't aligned the first time so i when i tried to take off harmonic balance pulley bolt it moved to a position where its hard to align the belt with the markings & I took off the timing belt hoping i could still match it)

So now...everything is out of time and I have no idea how to re-mark my engine and get the timing right again

I have this theory but I wanted to double check it:
-I re-align the camshaft to the v-notch again and make a new marking
-do the same with the harmonic balance pulley; align it to TDC/0 degrees?

[UPDATE]
Hey guys, i realised that i can't simply just realign the crankshaft to 0 degrees. Because the camshaft rotates 360 degrees = 720 degree rotation on the crank shaft.

The problem is, the Camshaft and Crankshaft are out of time? is there a method to place them back in time?

[UPDATE 2]

If i were to install the timing belt with the crank shaft in the wrong place, then its impossible for the engine to start up? meaning, i just take out the parts i installed, rotate the crank shaft one revolution and it should start up this time?

Did i miss anything with starting up the engine with the crank shaft placed in wrong? would it damage the engine?

I4 engine? Check the DIY, all you have to do is align the cam mark and crank mark. Earlier engines have to tighten at TDC, later ones tightened at 45 BTDC.

Hey guys, its a 4 cyl engine 5s-fe.

[SOLUTION]

How to check if your crankshaft is synced with your camshaft

1. Set the camshaft pulley to the v-notch/TDC
2. Set your crankshaft at 0 degree (there should be a small notch on the gear and the plate of the engine)
3. Place a stick in cylinder no.1
4. Rotate the crankshaft by hand and wait till cylinder 1 is at TDC (when the stick is at its highest]
5. Place timing belt on etc.

DONE ! Your crankshaft and camshaft are now in sync

Thank you pmes & JohnGD for your advice and suggestions!
