3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Just when I said, OK enough, I'm going to leave the darn car as is for awhile, an old friend and I got around to meeting up and paying a visit today. He's lookin good and has a really neat girlfriend that is just the neat smart kinda gal for him. He's also into cars, and has pretty good tastes when it comes to custom. We've talked a litle off and on about this for awhile, but he had an extra set of OZ 17x8's sitting in his garage from a car swap. So of course we had to try and see if... I think it was a G35 Sedan to a G37 Coupe. The Coupe is pretty sweet! BTW Turns out, that even with the 225-55VR-17's on the wheels they fit, and don't rub or interfere with anything. Really, too much tire, but 50's or 45's would fit like a glove. these darn things have the perfect offset for the car.
It's almost driving me nuts now, good deal available, whadya think boys, is it worth it?

I personally like the style of those wheels, but I think 17's are one size too big, they just look too big for the car. Other people might feel differently, but to me the Gen3's styling does not lend itself to 17" or larger wheels.
How does the car ride with those tires? I can't imagine 50's or 45's on Calgary roads, would be punishing, even damaging to the car no? BTW, is that a dent in your door? Or just a reflection of a window or top of a house.

I am a little concerned about how it will ride on 17's, but they look so darn nice. (better in person) My Dad hates th 17's (225/45vr-17's) on his new car, because they ride great on great road, but roar and vibrate the car on crappy pavement. So far though, no banged up rims.. IDA Know, it such a tough question, do you want to be admired from afar for your tastes, and look beautiful, or be a comfortable shoes girl...

The trend to lower and lower profile tires has really hurt ride quality, there is only so much a good suspension can do with a sidewall that has nothing to it. 45's on your car would be punishing I think, but would look pretty sweet. I just can't see that kind of rubber on the roads we drive on, there are some horrendously bad areas in this city, especially downtown what a mess.
I've always wondered what these wheels would like like on my '93, not that I could ever find a set. I have the SE wheels that it came with they are nice, but the powder type finish sucks, everything sticks like crazy to them they are impossible to keep clean, I need to refinish them somehow.

It takes a bit of getting used to, seeing a 17" on my car... they really make a dramatic impact on the visual the car throws off. I've gotten kind of used to the idea of making subtle changes to external visual details of my cars, that take a person that knows the car to appreciate and notice. This is really quite different, these wheels stand out to any car enthusiast walking through a parking lot, or seeing it drive down the street, and yell out: "this car is modded!".?
Turns out that with 215-50's, 17's, the ride height and speedo would work out just about perfect. Also with a GT (Grand Touring) oriented tire, ride harshness from rougher asphalt and small, sharp impacts would be fairly well managed.
In a touch of irony, the OZ wheels also have a flawless and very nice finish on them, that lend quite a bit of the classy, high end, quality sort of look to the car, that I'm also looking for.
It's only money, right?

In that side shot reflection, you see, the one royally sweet door ding of all time. Must have taken a good sledge hammer of force to put it in. (no paint damage) I had it checked and its a good candidate for paintless repair... priorities..

put less rubber on them and they will be perfect however then you will want to lower the car to make it look even better haha
... but even with current tires it looks awesome to me
Silent Runner, I'd say those rims are a keeper, depending on the money involved
Haha! Thought you might like the 5, spoker's. This is not a cheap proposition though. The tires on them are good, and asking is $1200. Further, they want to rip the heck out of us up here in Cana-not-get a deal-da, tires would be another 700-$800. They are beauties though.. and I'm going to keep the car awhile.. Maybe the y-pipe will have to wait.
Maybe I'll sell some stock options..
