4th Generation Injen SRI or Window Tint?

Ok i assume that everyone might be a bit confused about the title of this tread, considering that the two have next to nothing to do with each other aside from the fact that they both keep unwanted stuff out.... I am simply asking for a poll response as to what the next mod should be for my 1998 Gen 4 Camry I4 XLE. This month I either want to replace the stock air box with an Injen IS SRI or have the windows tinted. As a college student my budget only allows for a reasonably priced mod once or twice a month so I figured I'd leave this decision up to TN! So, Tint or Intake? Throw your answer up on the poll as well. Thanks for your input!

-Oh and let me mention that the two are nearly equal in price, give or take $20 so that aspect makes no difference...

I say the intake because window tint is technically illegal most places, I don't know specifically about St. Cloud, MN. The problem is that anything illegal gives the pigs an excuse to harass you. Intakes may not give you any power, but they sound awesome and are legal.

I vote tint. Some here say the SRI reduces fuel efficiency somewhat.

Minnesota shows to allow only 50% on the side and back. http://www.tintlaws.com/

Having said that, I still voted for the tint. I have 35% and doesn't look dark with a tan interior.

Don't bother with an SRI. This thread provides a neat summery about why. I vote for tints

i care not for your efficency, i say SRI because a cool sound is cooler then dark windows.

btw...SRI can be extended to CAI.

Hey guys, thanks for the input and keep it coming! ... I figured I would get some input regarding the intake, and what has been posted so far seems to be in line with what I've read. I've been really curious about extending the SRI to a full CAI and I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this and if so what the benefit was?

For the price you'll pay for the SRI alone, you can make your own CAI for a lot cheaper with PVC pipe (which will give you less heat soak than a metal pipe)

I voted tint

I realize you have a slightly newer car than I do but if you can bear with me I think this makes sense....I love my car...I do...but I'm not about to spend $150-200 for tint on it since its a 96 model thats probably not worth putting money into. However, I was very down to pay $27 on eBay for pre-cut tints and applying them myself. With little experience it was a lot easier than I thought. So if you were planning to have these things done professionally I'd suggest, as one broke college student to another, tint it yourself. With an extra set of hands and a borrowed heat gun to shrink the rear windshield tint it's not a big deal at all!

Only thing is I'd highly suggest taking the door panels off. Once you know how to do that it takes about 2-3 minutes per panel though. Let me know if you need any help but I mostly referred to youtube videos for help with tinting

Yea I've been waffling back and forth with the idea of DIY tint sheets. If I was totally confident that I would get identical results to those of a pro I would do it in a heartbeat....but one of my pet peeves in life is the horrible looking purple, bubbled, and misaligned garbage I see all over the place. Not that that's what yours looks like by any means lol! But I just don't trust MY skills as a tinter enough. I would just feel better paying for it once to be done the right way, w/ warranty, and enjoy the results! I'll keep my skills on the interior and under the hood where they belong. Thanks for the suggestion tho!

I did my own tint. Twice. It looked terrible the first time, so I ripped it off, and the second time I royally ruined the rear tint so after a month or so, I ripped that off too.

I think it looks better without tint...to be honest.

From what I hear if you're wanting tint then pro is the way to go just because then you're guaranteed to have it done right and the warranty, which you'd be a fool to not get, covers any "problems" you run into in the future. I have no problem spending the money on quality...
