98 camry xle radio to 97 camry le, will it work?

I own a 1997 Camry LE with a regular cassette only radio. I would like a double din radio with CD but i don't like the looks of the aftermarket radios. I found a 1998 Camry XLE radio which is double din and cd compatible and i was wondering if it will work with my 97 camry LE?

Note:the radio is a true double din not the cd player added to the regular radio to make it look double i dont want that one.

maybe? you have to pull your deck out and check the connector on the back i believe the 97 had 3 different connectors

the premium jbl, where the head unit doesn't have a amp chip and relies on a external amp (under passenger seat)

the early ones had the same connectors from the 92-96

or (most 97's) they had the newer 97+ connector

It can be done, but you will need to remove the wiring harness that goes from the head unit to the amp under the passenger seat, and also you will need the amplifier. It would be much easier just to get a double din unit that does not use an external amp. For example, look for faceplate# 16814, you commonly see this unit in the Sienna and Gen4 Camry, and some other Toyota models.
