Suspect spun rod bearings.....advice?

My 00 Camry lost oil pressure about 2 blocks from where I work the other day, and I had it towed home for me to analyze this weekend. When I crank it, the oil light stays on, and there is a horrible noise coming from what sounds like the crankcase. This motor was a replacement that I got about 1.5 years ago...and I suspect that the oil screen gots clogged with sludge or something. My goal is to pull the pan (I dread doing that, as it is no easy chore) and inspect the case.

questions...

1) do I have to pull the caps to check the bearings? someone told me that if I pull the caps that I need to replace the bolts with new ones?

2) If the bearings are spun, but the crank shaft journals look good, can I feel confident in just replacing the bearings?

wish me luck....it's depressing thinking about being under that car tomorrow. That exhaust pipe sucks!!!!

If any of the rod or crank bearings have "spun" there is no such thing as the journals still being good. You will need to at least have the journal reground and new bearings.
