You wont be able to drastically alter the fueling while the engine is running in closed loop. The computer will be taking readings from the maf and 02 sensors and adjusting fuel trims accordingly. The SAFC can only alter the MAF readings, the ecu will notice from the 02 sensors it is running leaner than it should and up the fueling to achieve whatever air fuel ratio it is set to.

Ive been tuning GM ecus for a few years now and you can adjust the stoich air fuel ratio with a programmer, unfortunately you cant do that to a Toyota

I would not megasquirt my DD if you paid me to. Thats just asking to be left stranded in traffic. Get a TDI 5 speed if you want fuel economy that can potentially pay for itself

you could do it with a standalone - any standalone

I don't think anybody 's installed a megasquirt into a camry before, but definitely a aem ems

and unfortunately, as said, the stock ecu will change the fuel trims to match back to stoich and null the effects of your adjustments in closed loop

if you want better MPG than be gentle on gas pedal and drive like a grandpa after defensive driving course

also make sure you have no mechanical issues with car like dragging brakes, worn out wheel bearings, etc also run some good fuel system cleaner (e.g. Techron concentrate) and keep all filters clean according to maintenance schedule to get the most out of it.

ECU will not let you do anything to A/F ratio, and honestly it's good, you would probably hurt it with any mods. toyota ECUs are really good in achieving correct A/F ratio accordingly to driving style. leave it alone.

check out www.ecomodders.com for some minor (or major) mods for better MPG
