I have spent the last 24 hours trying to remove a very stubborn crank pulley bolt. Rachet, breaker bar, bigger breaker bar, impact wrench, about a half can of PB blaster, and NOTHING but frustration. I then took out my welder and some scrap metal to fabricate a poor man's version of the special service tool used to hold the pulley as you attempt to remove the bolt. Spent two hours doing this and again, my efforst produced NO results. I was really p*ssed at this point, and the bolt was starting to round over a bit by then, so I was getting really nervous.
I remembered an old trick I had read about on this forum a while back, but to be honest I was skeptical about it. The "starter blip" method where you attach a breaker bar and socket to the bolt, pin it against the ground, and then quickly engage the starter motor to torque the bolt free. See a thread about the technique here:
Crank pulley nightmare!
It worked on the first try!!!! I nearly crapped my pants when I saw how effortlessly this worked after all of my time and aggravation!!! I literally had all of my weight on a three foot breaker bar at one point and did nothing but almost kill myself. Anyway I had to write up a quick thread to thank this forum!!!!
