Horn broken wires

95 Camry...horn wires were severed in a front end accident. Can't find where they connect to within the original wiring harness. Is it just 12V + and - going to the horn? If so I assume I could just tap off the battery and run a ground wire and it should be all set yes? Thanks for any help

lol. No you cant just tap into the battery.

What I would do if I couldn't find the harness is find where the Horn wiring runs from behind the steering column, and splice into it, add a connector, and run a new wire all the way to the horn, connecting it back to the original harness connector.

Some horns, such as the Freighliners actually have three wires (+) (+ switched) and (-). The (+ switched) and (-) runs all the way out the cab to the horn.

But like I said, most vehicles are A single wire and grounded at the horn. There is going to be two wires running to the horn button regardless, but one of them is going to be your (12v+) from your power source, and the other is going to be your Horn wire.

Find which wire is the Horn wire (12V+ when you press the horn) (0v when its not pressed), and thats your wire.

If you wire it from just a 12V+ Source, the horn will be on until the battery dies.

Sounds good thanks. Is there a relay in the circuit? Or is it just basically that when you press the horn you're making a switch that then connects the 12v to the horn....a normally open switch. ??

There is a Horn fuse, but no relay...

Heres basically how it works.. On the battery side, I forgot to add an inline fuse but you get the picture :

Yes, its normally an open circuit. the Horn is the 12V Switch in the Wiring closing the circuit and completing the circuit

So I decided to just pick up one of those horn buttons....to wire it all I need to do is pass 12V through it, yes? One side going to the battery with an inline fuse (or find an open 12v fuse) and the other side of the button wired straight to the horn....pressing the button completes the circuit and send 12v to the horn. Am I missing anything? Thanks

Yeah, that should work. if the horn has 2 wires (+) and (-). Just run the (-) right to the frame and you should be good to go. Or just attach it to one of the mounting bolts for the horn
