3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Hey, has anyone ever built a Gen 3, 3.5, 2dr Camry Convertable? I was looking at a really sad white 2dr in the PnP, the other day, and I thought, "Damn that would make a nice looking convertable". I know it would take alot of structural re-enforcement, but it would look really nice, fit right in with the BMW 3-Series convertables of the time.

I believe it's been done. Not seriously, but a hack job. If you were to do it right, i'd see problems with insurance and registration though. A convertible camry is more known as the solara
If you're personally looking at doing this, you are going to receive a LOT of criticism for it. Personally I think it's a great idea. Sure, you can buy a convertible. Sure, you can buy a better platformed car and stop modding a camry. But then you're just like everyone else...
Why not be creative and do something original and custom? That's why I'm still modding camrys.
Honestly, you're better off getting a Solara. But if you want to do something custom, then go for it.

I was just curious about whether anyone had done it before. Personally, I'd never cut the roof off of a viable 2dr. Camry. I'd buy it and tranfer all my stuff over to it. I just think that the car has nice lines to do a convertable in 2dr. form. The last custom convertable I was involved in was a 1975 4dr, Ford LTD. It got lots of looks, and was like driving a big hovercraft down the highway. About 20ft long, you might have been able to get a Camry in the trunk.
