checking valve clearance

I'm going to change the valve cover gasket in my 99 camry. I have a feeler gauge and i want to know the procedure for checking valve clearance, on both the exhaust and intake side?

In brief the easy way basically is you start with the crank pointing to 0 deg. Then look for cylinders (intake or exhaust sides) with the cam lobes pointing up and away from the shims. These are the ones you check. Then rotate 360 again and check the remaining cylinders.

if you are below 120k miles then I wouldn't even bother with it. most likely everything will be in specs or at edges of specs (still good).

I believe the factory settings are right in middle of ranges as some valves tend to get loosened and some others will get tightened over years.
