Possible to retrofit a cabin air filter ?

Since Gen 3 does not have cabin air filters - has anyone been able to filter incoming air for pollen ?

If you have access to Toyota's online catalog then compare the Gen 4 Avalon's HVAC unit with your Gen 3 Camry's. At least rockauto shows the heater core and evaporator are the same in Gen3 Camry and Gen4 Avalon, so my guess is they share *some* similarities.

If the evaporator/heater housing are identical that's a good sign. Because it's the blower fan housing that needs to be bolted to the evap/heater housing. The only problem can be the intake into the blower housing is located at a different location on the Gen4 Avalon than the Gen3 Camry.

For some reason Toyota decided to remove all catalog pictures from dealer websites. Must be a part of the dealer economic stimulus package.

im sorry but i have to steal this thread.

i wanted to replace my gen4 cabin air filter but when i called the dealer parts, they said my car doesn't have that part.

my car smells like azz (mildew ?) so i thought it might've been the cabin air filter so i was gonna replace that, and clea my carpet. but since they said that theres no cabin air filter, then i guess my only option is to clean the carpets.

so it is true that theres no air filter in the gen4 either ? or...

no air cabin filters in gen4.

all you can do is to spray Lysol anti-bacterial spray (around half a can) into cabin intakes under windshield on running car (and a/c+fan at full blast) and let it do the job.

keep the windows rolled down when you do this, or you will get a nasty cough upon re-entering the car

I think it may be possible. When I replaced the filter in the 07 the duct that comes from the windsheild to the top of the blower motor I believe was separate from the motor. You could probably swap one from a newer Toyota or do some modification. I would have to look at it again to see if it's separate.

why gehtto rig something when a factory option exists for the car? it doesnt even require a different rear deck, just holes cut and mounting hardware.

to filter out bad stuff i guess. kinda like how houses usually have air filters for the central air.

open the hood and look right below the windshield and wiper arms. you will see a mesh of tiny holes in plastic, there is 3 points of air entry, left side, center and right side.

on the inside of car there is some sort of a duct interconnecting them and routing to cabin blower motor (behind glove box).

last time I just sprayed like half of big Lysol anti-bacterial spray through those openings, on running car (a/c at full fan blast at various settings) and it removed the smell of mold.

you will probably smell some lysol for next 2 days after you do this though
