3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Ok well its Friday the 13th, a few says before my birthday. After spending about 1000 over past month on maintenance and to pass emissions. Last weekend after hounding the board to get info I finally installed a keyless entry system (gonna try to get it out of there) Also yesterday I even decided to clean out the inside, and trunk to make it all spiffy.
AND THEM BAM a GRAY HAIRED OLDER GENTLEMAN came out of nowhere and all the plans for new leather, and seafoaming over next month came to an end. So far i think i will be ok just a lil pain from steering wheel in abdomen/gut but hoping it will be ok, or im off to doctor late tonight.
it was totally his fault, and he got the ticket. But do you think she can be saved?
Im thinking since both airbags deployed, and its a 95 CARMEN is going to the scrapyard in the sky.
I have never been in this situation, if she is totalled what does insurance give you? will i end up having to put something with it, just to get something a couple years newer, or a few miles
It could be fixed. I see hood, fender, washer container, bumper cover, 2 air bags, corner, signal lights and paint.
All you could buy and repair yourself...
I'm sure the guys insurance will want to total it for current Blue Book or less.

wish i was that handy, i could do signal lights washer container, after that who knows? plus try to get the old old paint to match so im not riding primer gray. If insurance paid to get her fixed, i would go for it. Should know something next week.
So much headache in trying to find a car, have it checked, hoping they checked it thoroughly and then buying it, hoping the title is all legit. WISH I HAD TIME MACHINE. i just wouldnt have left the house today.
Insurance is gonna total. Show them all the receipts etc from all the recent work and make them up the price.
If they sell back for cheap (500 or so) I would buy it and fix it up. Painted parts are plentiful and cheap. 400$ at a junkyard should easily get you the whole front clip.
sorry to see this car had a crash! looks like a serious hit ...
if air bags deployed then insurance usually call it a total loss. except for exterior damage there could be damage to some structural parts in front end, ABS pump and wiring harness above the washer fluid tank ... not sure if it really would be worth to replace/fix all that stuff once it's all confirmed damaged.
you could ask body shops specializing in wreck restoration and ask around for an estimate based on pictures, then ask insurer how much for buying it back (if they total), check if math works out and make a decision.

That sucks but it’s not all that bad. At least the passenger airbag didn't destroy the windshield (usually they do) It's repairable but going to take a lot of time and effort to pull the radiator support out.

by the way, most shops can fix the hood without replacing it. I had worse on wife's car after I smashed it in Winter into a Nissan Murano (ice is a bitch, but the other driver was an ass too and blocked my way while I was going down the hill ). however I had less damage and on opposite side
fender usually needs replacing, same about lamps and plastics, wiring can be fixed if it isn't too bad, broken connectors can be replaced from some wreckers. cheap ABS pumps are on ebay and from wreckers. some minor bends in structure (not frame!) can be fixed too, won't be perfect, but it will feel and look good.
suspension parts (whatever took the impact) can be pricey to replace, but doable if budget allows. worst worry is frame, if that is bent then forget it, car will never drive straight after "fixing" that.

that's definitely fixable by yourself, but only if you know how to weld
from the extent of the damage, chances are that you also bent the side railing a bit at the top of the engine bay and probably twisted the rad support where it connects to the top frame
you may be able to hammer it back, but the weld point can break pretty easily, so open your hood and let us know how it looks underneath
if it didn't touch the rad support at all, then you may be in luck

+2. Sorry for your loss buds! I know EXACTLY how you feel, you're looking into the abyss... Unfortunatly, with airbag deployment, the odds of your insurance fixing it are very slim. But some of us know we saw a miracle when my car was rear ended (Joe, you remember how bleak things for me looked at the time!)
If there is no frame damage, another option would be to buy it from the insurance and fix it up yourself. The shop might be more forgiving as far as cost if they know you're paying out of pocket
