I have a 99 camry le and the light on the radio receiver, here is a picture of it, does not come on. I did remove it and open it, but i have NO idea how the light works, let alone why or what made it stop working. Is it possible to fix? I want to avoid getting a new radio, of course
i have an 1994 camry xle and have the same problem security light on my radio and it does't work but my first toth that i does in't work with non factory security seystem
15 amp fuse is blown. It controls the stereo, clock, power windows, and radio. In my 1995 Le it is behind the pull out ashtray on the drivers left side next to steering collum.
Well, the fuse box is right under the steering wheel. I checked ALL 7.5 and 15 amp fuses, they're fine, and NOT blown. There's also two 5A fuses, but are for IGN and starter. Also, 10A are for heater, and 20, 25 for wiper. I'll check these later as well, but doubt they have anything to do with the light on the radio. I think the radio light may be on the radio itself.
Does the radio work, but the display is not working? If yes, it's not a fuse.
Does the display show anything at all?... characters, but with a dark background, making it very hard to read? If yes, then the backlight is not working. This happened to the factory radio in my Camry. There was a grain-of-rice sized bulb soldered to a board inside that was burnt out. I found a replacement at Radio Shack.
If the display is totally blank, not showing anything at all, then it's probably not economical to fix it.

Radio works fine, as does it's display, the ONLY problem is the backlight on the LCD. Actually, the lights on the radio buttons are working, too. When i removed the radio, and opened it up, i could NOT find any light bulb or LED. I did NOT open the LCD, since it looks difficult to take apart. Is it possible to replace just the LCD or at least the front circuit board? If so, where can i buy it and how much will it cost? Some help would be great.
Did a search for a DIY thread and found this one showing how to change the color of the LEDs on what looks like exactly the same head unit as yours. Man, that looks like a lot of work!

Geez, that's way too much for me to do! It'd take a long time just to get LCD off, and then de-solder the LEDs looks painful!I have NO clue what dremel is or how to use it either. I'd much rather just get buy a new circuit board, does anyone know where to find one for sale?
You're wasting your time if you are looking for a circuit board, unless you can get a junkyard unit to strip. Not worth it, IMHO. Go to Ebay and they sell TONS of factory headunits. Anything from '87 on up to 98 is usually the same as far as the connectors go, unless you have the Premium Sound system with a separate amp, as those are much different. Just replace it.
I only see the FULL radio for sale on ebay, NOT just the front head unit. I searched for "camry head" "camry unit" and "camry head unit" but the closest thing that comes up is the temperature control head unit, which is for A/C heater. Googling came up with the same results, even on toyota parts websites. If someone has a link to the front head unit of the camry 1999 radio on ebay or elsewhere, please post here.
in ebay, search for "99 camry radio" and you will find dozens of units for sale. honestly, i would opt to spend $150 and go aftermarket, but that is just me.
