Nope, I've just kept it clean its whole life, so there was no film of anything to slowly eat away at the shine I guess. The weird thing is the valve covers, which have some staining and overall dullness that I can't get rid of. Maybe a chemical reaction with some cleaner or dressing I sprayed on the engine, combined with heat and years.

pmesfun: Nice work on yours. How did you get your valve covers so clean?
