Watch out for cracks in coolant reservoir!
I just drove from Denver to Portland, OR this past week. 3 times my car began overheating on the highway after about 200 miles or so. I could not figure out what the hell was going on. I was running out of coolant fast. I thought maybe my stant thermostat was defective. Or maybe I had a major leak somewhere.
Then, I noticed coolant spill all over the inside of the fender running down. Then I look where the reservoir is connected to the metal piece. Apparently the metal is too abrasive and overtime wears little cracks and finally a gaping hole.
So with relief I set out to the junkyard to find a new reservoir and apparently this is a common issue. I was luckly to be able to find a good one on my first trip.
I put duct tape around the old one until I was able to get into town, and also on this one as well as it should prevent it from happening 1 more gen...
