3rd Generation How to remove PCV Valve?

Ive searched this forum, high and low, no info on how to take it out of there. I dont want to break it, maybe its really simple but I want to know for sure. my 96 camry 4cylinder has 233k miles now, and i wouldnt be supprised if my pcv valve is original or has atleast 100k on it.

How do you take them out? I want to see if it still works or not

If its old .. its probably going to break.. you can get a new one for like $5.00 at the parts store.

First, Take off the Hose that connects from the PCV to the intake

Second, Use a screw driver or two screw drivers and pop it out.

If you haven't replaced it before, I recommend just getting a new one anyways since its such a cheap part

If the valve breaks parts of it will go into the valve cover. The rubber grommet is likely hardened and brittle. Pieces of it likes to fall into the valve cover when you try to remove it.

I'd consider getting a new PCV valve, new grommet, and a valve cover gasket set with spark plug tube seals and a $2 tube of sensor safe RTV from Harbor Freight (or spring $6-8 for the Permatex Ultra Copper) for the semi-circular plug joints.

Remove the valve cover before trying to remove the old PCV valve and grommet. Then clean gasket surface with alcohol and reinstall. Torque the tube nuts to 17 lb/ft. Recheck the torque after a couple of weeks.
