3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I get about the same for that type of driving. Recently made a 650 mile round trip with all highway driving at 65 mph and very few stops and got 35 mpg each way, which is about as high as I've seen with this car.
I just got back from a road trip to Atlanta from New Jersey, 900 miles each way. I got 35.7 MPG to be exact with 89 octane!! But that is strictly highway driving at about 70 miles per hour, A/C off, windows shut. I also did a very major tune-up recently. My usual driving which is a mixture of city/highway is now around 25-28MPG.
19-21 MPG (yes car is properly tuned and maintained)
These aren’t city streets here; they are highways with traffic lights which will kill fuel economy. 0-50-0 mph over and over again daily. But it's still within new EPA mileage estimate. The high heat, heavy A/C loads, 10-15% ethanol fuel, and a heavy foot doesn't help either.
I've never gotten anything much over 30mpg no matter how much I try.. but there's always city miles involved in my driving, be it little. Going to maryland in a few weeks, gonna see how great mpg I can get with a lot of highway
huh, you guys must have some lucky roads and traffic lights ...
I'm same as Yuko ... stop signs and traffic lights everywhere, often bumper to bumper traffic ... and most of state highways have traffic lights, only except interstate which are only ones we can go without stopping for some distance (still not possible entirely in rush hour)
2000 5s-fe doing around 18-19MPG in city and around 27-28 MPG hwy (85mph tops, 75mph on avg). numbers can be skewed, because I checked them last time before fixing the oil/vacuum leak from distributor plug.

I average about 27 mpg. On a recent trip to AR from MO, I got 32 mpg. I would like to see that go up but not sure how I can. I did check my tire pressure and they were all at 26lbs. cold. 1998 Camry 4 cyl.
About 25 in Chatham Co/Savannah Ga. I live in the sticks sorta so there's not many lights (2-3) between me and the city proper (about 4 miles). In town there is a light every 0.5 to 2 miles and speeds of 30-55mph depending on traffic/time of day etc... I know my way around very well and know the light timing so I can keep rolling. I don't drive during rush hour if I can help it. If I went downtown a lot (i don't) my MPG would be much lower.
Also, I adjusted my AT shift cable (see DIY sticky) so I can control my gears better. Nothing like taking a left turn at 25MPH during rush hour just to stay in 4th lol.
I used to get 28-30 when I delivered pizza on the south-west side. Thats about 2/3 highway and 1/3 residential with lights every 1-3 miles depending on where I would go.
