Broken key stuck inside trunk lock

Hi,

My key broke inside the truck lock. I am able to use another key to open the truck by partially inserting the key into the lock and turning it. In fact I can use any key, insert it into the lock partially and open the lock.

Any ideas / suggestions?

my suggestion that would be the easiest would be to go to the salvage yard, get a car that has a key in it. Make sure the trunk lock works. Then remove the lock and take the key. Use a separate key when using the trunk.

Thats the easy way.

Now if you are a bit more daring, I would suggest to remove the locking cylinder and take it apart. Push something through the back side of it to dislodge the broken fragment of key.

Or, you could call a lock smith and have them do what I listed second and pay them like $100-$300.00 to do that.

So rundown ..

Option 1 = $5-15.00
Option 2 = FREE
Option 3 = $100-$300.00

I'm pretty sure they're made of brass, so a magnet won't work.

If it were me, I'd try Mr. P's option #2.

I'm not sure what lock smith you go to but if they only charge $10.00 to remove a key then I want to know his name and number. lol

I had a lock smith unlock my car, it took them literally 10 seconds and it cost me $75.00
