Recommedation by Dealership, what to do first

Just got my oil changed at the Poway, CA dealership. Here's what they recommended:

- Oil Pump O-Ring Leaking
- Dog Bone Mount torn
- Brake Fluid Black
- Air Filter dirty
- Front tires at wear bars

Which ones should I do first? I have about $200 I could put towards car repairs now and the rest I can take care of next month.

I would do dog-bone mount and air filter. Can you do a brake flush?

Air filter is easy, tires are important (especially drive ones), brake fluid easy DIY, My dog bone mount is also torn a bit...supposed to had been a new one.

I want to get my oil seals fixed SOON. I'm considering a rebuild next month. My lifters are noisy, car leaks and burns oil...

The other week I pulled out of a client's driveway of whom I was visiting. I gasped in horror as I noticed several spots of oil that had dripped onto this probably multi-million dollar home's driveway.

I was so embarrassed I wanted to call and let him know my car had just PMSed all over the driveway

Get the tires first. Air filter and dog bone are very easy DIYs. Brake fluid is a bit more involved. How much oil is leaking?

I bought my tires from Costco about 2 1/2 years ago, 46,000 miles ago:

Michelin X-Radial

You think if I take it in, I could get the warrenty?

I'm not that handy around cars and I have a good mechanic down the street.

How much do you think the air filter and dog bone would cost?

Also, my check engine light it on, but I'm not going to worry about it until I have to get a smog check.

I hear it may be expensive to fix:

I got the free check engine light to get the following error code:

P0401

Exhaust gas recirculation flow - insuffiency detected

46K miles is not bad for X-Radial. The newer Primacy MXV4 IIRC has a tread warranty of 60K miles. AFAIK, if you get less than that you receive a prorated rebate.

The dog bone and air filter shouldn't cost more than $50 online for Toyota parts. Local dealer counter slightly more. These two items are something you can stand and watch. maybe 1-2 minutes max.

If you can't bleed the brakes yourself then let the dealer handle it. If over 2-years I'd do it.

To get to the pump o-ring they basically have to take off the timing cover and the timing belt. This is probably the most expensive in terms of labor. The pump o-ring itself is <$5. If going this far you might as well get a complete timing job that includes the following:

(older list for 3/5SFE, www.rockauto.com prices)
GATES TCK199 (kit of timing belt with two pulleys and instruction)
$84.79
GATES Part # K030295 PS belt $4.32
GATES Part # K050435 Alt/AC $12.12
FEL-PRO TCS45641 Cam seal $4.11
FEL-PRO TCS45920 Crank seal $6.04
BCA Part # 221820 Oil pump seal $2.71
AISIN (Toyota #16110-79185) water pump $58.79
FEL-PRO VS50304R valve cover gasket set $13.94

Plus the large oil pump o-ring if you remove the pump.
NGK Iridium-IX plugs.
etc

Getting the two front tires taken care of today at Costco. They are giving me 50% warrenty.

next week, I'll have the Dog Bone Mount replaces and the Air Filter..shouldn't be too much $$$ to replace those right?

Costco has good customer service. They hand torque the lug nuts too.

If you have the tools you can do the dog bone and filter yourself. Borrow a torque wrench from Autozone's free loaner tool program (with deposit) for the mount bolts. They usually don't like people working on their cars in the parking lot, but for 2 bolts and an air filter they wouldn't mind. You can hand back the free loaner torque wrench in 5 minutes and get the deposit back.

I've used Beck Arnley and Anchor mounts, mostly in a rush from local parts stores. For these dog bone types they work fine.

Beck Arnley air filter $8.62 + shipping:

Beck Arnley torque mount $24.79 + shipping:

Take a look at Step #8 here - 2 bolts that go through the mount and you're done. The red circle on the left is one, but not the 2 red circles on the right in this picture:
