Question 99 Camry 4cyl crank pulley bolt...

Hi all,

Is the crank pulley bolt on a 99 Camry 4 cylinder engine lefthand or righthand thread? Or, will I have to turn it left or right to loosen it?

Right hand, conventional thread, you turn it counter clockwise to loosen. Use the "starter bump" method to remove it, don't use an impact wrench it is not good for the crank bearing.

standard thread. clockwise= tight. counter= lose.
if you have an impact gun you can zap it off.
you can also use a chain wrench to keep the crank from moving and
use a braker bar to get it lose

Luckily you didnt cross thread the bolt and then using a 1000ft lb impact to get it off because you 650lb impact wouldnt work, then tapping the crankshaft out to 9/16" -18 Threads and finding out that its really really hard to find a 9/16 - 18 bolt anywhere in houston, so you bend the original bolt back straight and using a die tap the old stripped out bolt with the 9/16" - 18 Die. By the way Lucky that you didn't have to buy a $125.00 tap / die set because you needed one tap.

Just saying, your lucky. LOL

Actually that whole story was what happened to me. The actual reason that it fucked the threads up on the crankshaft was because my Harmonic balance pulley stripped the threads on the crank out and I didnt realize it until i jammed the bolt tight in there.
