97 Camry Won't Start

Hello everyone this is my first post on here, I've lurked on here for a while but I thought I would join today and see if I could get some help .

Its a 97 camry with the 4cylinder, I think its called a 5fse motor im not positive on the name of the motor.

Well a family member ran this car hot and blew a head gasket and since they didn't want to spend the money to fix it they gave it to me. Well I took the head off and sent them to the machine shop and he had to shave them down some, so im wondering if this is part of my issues. The head was warped so he shaved it down and reworked it. Well I put everything back together and go to set the timing, the main issue is the timing marks just won't line up, if you move it a teeth it goes a little bit out the other way, its like there almost lined up but not quite, oh and this is a brand new timing belt. Well I lined it up following the book and finish putting the car back together, try to start it up and it fires some but it mostly just turns over and you can hear it hit here and there. Well I try moving it a tooth the other way and it pretty much does the same thing, I'm wonder if having the head shaved down has thrown the timing off some and if there is a way to get it back in time? Oh and thanks for any advice offered.

Did you pay attention to the marks on the camshafts if there not right the car won't start. I had this happen to me. Does the car feel like it has compression?

My thread with necessary info.
Questions on starting camry recently rebuilt.

Another thing if you didn't get new head bolts get them now to save your self any more headache. Camry's head-bolts are torque to yield which means they can only be used once.

Shaving the head should have nothing to do with the car not starting. As Fortified Souls pointed out, the marks are problably not lined up correctly.

Yes I did get new head bolts, I'm going to run back through today and re-check everything and later this evening I will post the results, it got late so I didn't have a chance to troubleshoot it much. Also the car does feel like its has compression at times maybe to much compression.

Mk guys here is the update, I went and rechecked everything. The car has good spark, and fuel and when I mean fuel im thinking maybe to much. I had a few busted vacuum hoses and replaced them. The coolant temp sensor and the connector both disintegrated in my hand, I'm thinking without this sensor the computer is dumping fuel thinking its really cold out, what do you think? I know on the gm trucks in the late 90's this sensor would fail and cause the computer to go nuts and just dump lots and lots of fuel into the motor. What it does is it fires for just a sec and stops. When I was rechecking the timing I pulled the plugs to make it turn over easier and as I would spin it you would see big puffs of gas vapor come out, and the plugs are pretty fouled up considering there brand new. Does this make since without the temp sensor the computer is dumping to much fuel in?

Alright guys there is more to it, the sensor that is broke is for the gauge, checked the ecm coolant temp sensor and it is fine. So im getting good spark, the timing belt and cams are correct. So I'm thinking I'm getting to much fuel, I'm going to check the injectors today, any ideas on what sensor or what issue I could be having provided the injects are fine? Seems like brand new plugs shouldn't be this fouled up. If It helps I can post a audio clip of me trying to start the car if it helps to hear me turning the car over?
