kind of stuck on timing belt change

Doing a TB change on 2000 camry LE. Everything went smooth (thanks to DIY here). Crank bolt came off with blip method. However the crank gear is not coming off. I saw in the DIY thread that it should slide off once the crank pulley is off. However that sucker is stuck and is not budging even a bit. I see two threaded hole in the crank gear, so my question is should I use the harmonic puller to pull the gear just like I did the crank pulley?
I am trying to replace the crank seal. Car doesn't leak oil, only 92k. So if I can't get that sucker out, I may let it go for now, what do you say?

Second q: the cam seal came off easily with a screw driver. However I spent almost 30 min to put the new seal back. It won't go back in much, so I couldn't use the old seal and cam pulley tighten method. I tried the old seal and that one went in like butta' (i didn't push all the way and took it out). Both seals are identical in dia, so I am using the correct seal (got it from the kit from ebay). Anyway after 30 min, I used two pry bar and pushed that sucker in, it is now all the way in. Anyone had trouble getting this seal in? Because of this exp, and if I can't take the crank gear easily, I am seriously thinking not to do the crank seal.

Any thoughts, advices, tips are much appreciated. Planning to start the job around 9AM tomorrow central time.

Thanks
John

Same problem I had, we used a mini slide hammer with I think 6mm? bolts threaded into the gear. It came out easy after a couple pulls.

Do not use this type of puller

This is the type to use.

Put the seal in the freezer for an hour. It should shrink enough to make the installation go a bit easier.

If you don't have a big enough socket to drive the seal in, then take the seal to Home Depot or Lowes and match up the seal diamater with some PVC pipe, or plumbing fittings.

Yes use the harmonic balancer puller to get the crank gear, mine slid off by hand so I guess I got lucky. I also had a lot of difficulty with the cam seal, couldn't get it in all they way, it's still protruding about 1/16th inch. Hasn't leaked yet though

Go to Harbor Freight & purchase a steering wheel puller kit for $10. It will remove the pulley, you can also put 2 pry bars behind the pulley & work it off.

+1.

Autozone has a free loaner program for the harmonic balancer puller (OEM27019). Harbor Freight calls it "46 piece bolt puller set" for $9.99. They also have the steering wheel and gear pullers.

These pullers may not come with the correct metric bolts you need however. Make sure the puller's forcing screw doesn't turn against the crank bolt hole threads. Use a thread protector (could be a washer or socket in front of the crank snout).

I checkened out on this one. I was using the harmonic balance puller from Autozone rental and the crank pulley came off. It was the gear behind the pulley that was not coming off. Since I had a hard time putting the cam oil seal, I chickened out this one and went without chaning this seal. I hope it will hold till my next TB change
