HELP, 1995 Camry A/C does not work!

Hi everyone!

I have a 1995 Camry LE but the A/C does not work. When I press the A/C switch, the LED is solid green and NOT flashing, but the compressor clutch does not engage, nor does the A/C fan turn on or idle up. I took out the A/C switch thinking that it might be cause, but pins 2/5 checks out fine. What else can I check? The fuse and relays look good. The think I really cannot understand is why the A/C switch would be solid green and not flashing. I even disconnected the compressor and A/C relays and the switch still stays solid green. What else can I check? Is there a A/C controller box in the car that I can look at? What could cause the A/C not to work but to have the LED stay solid green? Thanks in advance!

There is an A/C amplifier for these systems (see pic) but I would check to see if there is refrigerant in the system first. I believe if it is low or there is none, the system will simply not engage the compressor, could be wrong though I know very little about A/C systems.

edit - you can check to see if the compressor clutch is working by using this procedure.

Thank you 71Corolla! I will try to see if the clutch engages. What really bothers me is that the LED indicator is always lit when I press it. It doesn't flash even if I unplug everything else A/C related.

Does anyone know if this A/C amplifier "control" the entire A/C system - i.e. start A/C fan, idle up, engage compressor clutch, etc...?

The A/C amplifier does pretty much everything. You have PM.

Compressor will not engage with to little refrigerant. The Refrigerant lubes the compressor and its a fail safe feature to protect the compressor from grenading.
