question about the door lock thing

hey,

my friend has a 2010 corolla and closing/opening the door feels so nice and smooth. i have a 99 camry and closing/opening the door feels so unnice and unsmooth.

back in 99, were our doors just as smooth and time just made it xhitty ? or have our doors always been like that and new technology just made the new doors so nice ?

if our doors used to be that smooth back in 99, then do i need to grease up the door lock thing or do i need to just buy a new one ?
if not then fxuck! cause i hate the feel of opening and closing my door compared to my friends corolla. maybe i'll have to retrofit one from a newer car.

thanks,
d

does everyone know what im talking about ? haha

I'm not sure, my Door locks are pretty smooth, but I also spray lubricant on the hinges, latches, and locking cylinders every other week.

Try to get some spray, and spray it in there and see if it helps. Graphite also helps too sometimes. spray some of it in there and work the key in and out 5 or 6 times (and also locking/unlocking)

I guess i didnt mean door lock sorry. I think i meant the latch.

Its like on the new cars, opening and closing the door feels like cutting into butter.

I want my door to feel the same way when opening or closing. Im not sure if i just need to replace the latch with a set of new ones made for the gen4 camry or if i need to fit some latches fron the new 2011 toyotas

My 92 Camry had the same problem, so I sprayed all the hinges etc. with silicone lubricant and it has restored most of the smooth feeling.

Our body style has weak hatches, which take more effort to close and wear out faster, quoted from Tech1984. All our others car including my old van even the wind can shut the door. On mine I always have to use a little more effort to close them. I don't mind, mine has a solid feel to them, a nice thud when I tap on the doors. On the 07 it sounds less solid.

i went out and bought a can of white lithium spray grease and i sprayed all the latches/hinges/ and that little black plastic thing that keeps the door partway open.

the door hasn't gotton any smoother in opening/closing and is no where near the smoothness of newer toyotas.

i wonder if its just because the new ones have a different latch design that allows for more smoother latching/unlatching... if so i may have to just retrofit new latches.

same goes for the turn signal lever. it takes more force to operate and isn't as smooth as the ones in newer toyotas =[

Doors begin to sag over time. Try lifting up on the door a bit, like grab the bottom of it and pull up. New door seals and greasing the hinges with something like WD-40 should help as well.
