3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I am in the market for an inexpensive OBDII USB interface so I can do some real-time monitoring of sensor outputs, fuel trims, read codes, etc. on my '96 5SFE Camry. I've found TONS of them on eBay (this one, for instance). I've come across a few complaints, however, about them not working on certain vehicles or simply not working. Anyone have any experience with these eBay scanners, and perhaps can suggest a specific seller/model? Also, is there anything unique to the '96 models that I should be concerned with, considering this was the first year for OBDII?

Sorry dont know anything about this scanner ,but it would be a good deal if it works. Buy it, and do a review and post it here.

I use 2 chinese OBD2 interfaces from Hong Kong, never a single problem with either of them:
a) USB-OBD2 interface ELM327 for laptop (using with ScanMaster software). Working flawlessly with FTDI chipset driver for Windows XP. mine is an older version (1.3) of ones like this: http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?rt=nc&LH...=p3286.c0.m283
You can actually buy same Chinese scanners on amazon under names like Xitech or others, only price is double, but device is same (and fast US domestic shipping instead of international).

Torque! As mentioned is a great program if you have an android phone. I love using it with the scanner you are all linking to. Definitely a good buy!
I recently got myself an ELM 327 bluetooth and i'm trying to connect it to my HTC. I think the device works as the scanner lights up, it mounts to the phone and i see a flashing ABS light.
What functions are you able to read under the 'Torque' app? All i can seem to do is read CEL"s(which i have none at the moment).

1995 Camry Vienta Csi A/T - Still running

I am not sure why you are getting an ABS light to flash, mine doesn't do that...
anyways, go to Realtime Information tab from main screen of Torque.
then add a gauge then either hold finger on screen or MENU->ADD Display, then select e.g. Digital Display type gauge and pick one of the green/supported ones.
Interesting Display type is Raw Data Display giving you all supported and standard values in one small window. gives you q quick look what can you get with fancy gauges (analog, digital, mixed, etc.).
there are also custom/non-standard/enhanced gauges too, different on every car. gen5 toyotas use those below, some of them (e.g. misfire count) are also working on gen4.
I have also formulas for Torque AFR sensor voltage and lamba and AFR Measured Ratio if you want.

I recommend an UltraGauge...they're about $60 but they are so much more then just an OBDII code reader.
They track fuel economy, speed, torque, horsepower, various sensors that track performance and keep the car running normally...plus it has a feature to switch off the check engine light, which is really nice.
