3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I suppose I will start. Back in April, i bought a rather beat 1990 Golf to use as a daily driver/ work vehicle( I deliver food for a local pizza place). Well after inspection, it decided to give up the ghost and the cylinder head hose flange broke( ended up snapping a bolt, and then breaking off a bolt extractor( easy out my hairy white well you know).
So I posted it up on craigslist looking for a trade. Something basic, reliable and safe.
I get an e-mail from a guy with a Camry, and I was like, heck yeah!
Had to wait a month for the title to get here to do the trade, but it was well worth it!
Definitley an upgrade as the Camry is a 1996 XLE with the V6. It runs nice!

Bought the first silver 97 from a then-girlfriend for $700 needing a new clutch. Popped in a new one and raised hell for a year and a half in that car.
Then got a red 97 for free with a "blown engine" (aka dead battery...) so I swapped engines and trannies and then had the silver one crushed into a cube. It's probably still being recycled somewhere!

Ok, so now I am going to start wondering if all those CL ads saying "blown motor" are just people who know nothing and actually are just dead batteries...

Back in 1997, my parents decided to buy their first new car. It happened to be a 4th gen Camry CE with a 5 speed. By 2009 the car had around 300,000 miles and my mom got tired of seeing the same car in the driveway for 12 years so she sold it lol.
Fast forward to 2011. I just turned 17 and like every other teenager I wanted a first car. Something that was reliable and what not. I came across a craigslist ad for a 1999 Camry CE with a 5 Speed. It looked exactly the same as the 1997 we had except this one was white and it had 87,000 miles. So when I saw it I said I had to have it. I ended up buying the car and I couldn't be happier with the car. Theres a reason there are so many Gen 3 and 4 camry's on the road and I'm glad I bought the car.

on my way home from work in my 2003 Taurus a 15 yo kid pulled out in front of me in an intersection, and I t-boned him going 45 mph. I hit him so hard, the trunk popped and my toolbox and spare tire were on the road behind the car.... every safety feature failed... airbags failed, seatbelt broke, f/p cutoff switch left it spraying gas.... luckily we both had insurance, but i ended up having to spend 6 months suing his insurance-NATIONWIDE (not really on ur side)..... and a year going to the chiro. my neck still hurts. but everytime i get in my camry it somehow seems worth it......
they valued my taurus at 4300, i put most of that money into my F150 (mistake)..... the pain and suffering lawsuit brought me 4900, so i bought the camry *feb 2010, with 92k on her, 4200 bucks clean as new.... cant believe im up to 129k.... the MOST reliable thing ive ever seen. i want 3 more.
Mine is a family relick Parents bought it new in mid 95, was made to spec from TMM and has been with us ever since. I got it when I was 16 and I still daily it today Up until two months ago when I bought my dads old RL, it was the only car I have ever owned.

Back in 2004, I was 17 and desperately wanted a 1991 LS400 but my parents would't let me even though it was my money. Some shaninigans about it being a V8 rear wheel drive car in a snowy climate, and the repair cost was "high." so I found a two tone white and silverish-tan camry with leather and a moonroof - done deal. Bought her with 36,000 and ditched her (big mistake) with 160k. Eventually got my camry hybrid and will own another when it's redesigned
