slipping brakes. wtf

this has happened twice in the past month.... i go to stop, and the brake pedal looses its firmness and feels like it slips or pulses for just a second. doesnt push back, but the pedal drops just a little. I have had the orange ABS lite come on a couple times, never when this happens, only stays on for prolly 10 minutes, or until i turn the car off and back on.

i did the brakes myself, ceramic pads and had the rotors turned. greased in the proper places and all bolts tightened...i have taken both front wheels off and looked for a problem, but cant find one. For the record, i have a clunk in the front end when u hit a bump or the car shifts (like on really windy days)... does not clunk on the freeway, suspension feels great. not sure how to check the ball joints, so i may just replace them..... it has new sensatrac quickstruts, so thats not it. new endlinks, sway bar bushings as well, and one control arm......

advice?

When you were doing the brakes you got the ABS rings dirty. Take the wheel off and liberally clean it with brake clean and a rag/ brush. They are on the axle, you cant miss them.

Might as well flush the brake since youll have the wheels off, but in 95% sure the rings are dirty and providing a wrong signal to the abs sensors.

Dumb questions are easy to respond to. Your question was not dumb. This happens on many forums.

likely a dirty ABS sensor, as above.

First pull the ABS codes by shorting the terminals in DLC1 (under hood, by passenger strut tower).

Codes may reveal which speed sensor/ring is reading/sending abnormal signals to ABS ECU.

Did you hear that characteristic wrrrr sound when pedal was pulsed? it could be the MC being bad too (it doesn't throw ABS codes though).
