brake pads

Is this a good brake pad if I get it around $40 (Discount code BIG25) or should look for an OEM set?

I saw many are recommending akebono, so want to make sure the price and brand before I go and buy this.

Thanks
John

Akebono ProACT is actually the best batch of OEM pads you can get from dealer

It's a good price. If you have a dealer coupon you may be able to do better, but you risk getting NBK pads that IMO aren't worth your time to install.

Go down to the dealer and ask to see the pads. If you look at the back of the pads and see "AK xxx-xxx FF" then it's Akebono. If you see "NBK xxx-xxx FF" then it's NBK. You might get Sumitomos.

I have never heard of these pads (always bought AutoZone lifetime ones but have been told recently they eat rotors). While we are on the subject, what rotors are recommended (regular family car, no mods or racing usage)?

regular Centric rotors should do, around $20 each.
If you want closer to OEM than look for Brembo blank rotors online (~$40 each)
