Replacement of power antenna mast

I have a 1995 Camry that needed the power antenna mast replaced. After deciding not to pay OEM price for one, I did a search for a supplier for one. One name the came up was a seller on eBay. Their name is antennamastsrus .
I bought a replacement with shipping for under $20. It looks the same as OEM mast.
The mast came with instructions on how to remove and install it. In my case, it was simple.
Loosen and remove the nut holding on the mast. I used a screw driver, inserted it in one of the slots on the nut. Holding it at an angle and tapped the nut counter clockwise until it loosen up and removed it by hand. But add some tape round the antenna base to protect the paint. Just turn the radio on and keep it on until finished, pull the mast out as it was going up. Then take note of which way the teeth went. In my car, the teeth point to the rear. Now feed the teeth down the tube until it stops. It is now OK now to turn the radio off. The mast motor will start, continue to feed the teeth until they catch and the mast starts to retract. You might have to wiggle it a bit until it starts. It may not go all the way down the first time. Put the nut on and tighten. If the mast has not retracted all the way down, turn the radio on/off with the mast extending and retracting fully. My mast took 6 to 8 cycles to finally retract all the way down.
Hope this takes the mystery out of replacing the mast. I done it twice before with OEM masts. Both times I had to take the motor out, disassemble it and manually insert it.

You can purchase an aftermarket replacement mast at Pep Boys for $20 plus sales tax that fit's the 92-96 Camry with the power antenna. No need to wait for one to come in the mail if you don't want to wait. I just installed one in my 94 about 2 weeks ago. Seems to work fine. Best tool I found to use to remove the bevel nut is a needle nose pliers with the tip facing down or a retaining ring pliers. There's less chance of scratching the paint than the screwdriver method IMHO.
