Short the T1 and E1 terminals of the diagnostic port (near the passenger side firewall, you can use a paper clip or the twine core of a twistie tie) and count the flashes for your CEL. Each code is a pair, so you'll get like 5-2, or something, then look that up in the FSM. There's a link to it in one of the stickied threads in this forum.

Can't help much. Disconnect the battery ground for about 30 min. The check engine light will go off and with luck it might stay off. That takes all codes out of computer. Don't try to get a smog inspection because they can tell with no codes at all. It will probably come back on within 50 miles but sometimes that works. As for smog inspections there is A sweet spot where just before the lt comes back on the computer is resetting and the code isn't thrown yet. I was told this by a mechanic at AToyota dealer. He said he had done that A couple of times.

Depending on what the problem is it'll take about 50-100 miles before it trips a CEL. The best time to take it is after it figures out how to idle right and before it trips a CEL. I've passed a few CA smog checks this way with two out of three O2 sensors down.

Owners manual says that if you disconnect the battery for more than a short time, the air bag light will come on, and you have to go to a dealer to have it reset. I'm sure there's an easier/cheap way to go, but I haven't researched it yet myself.

(Probably nothing wrong with airbag thing, just has to be reset)

You can also clear codes by just pulling the EFI fuse out of the underhood fuse panel. It may come back on after a bit, or it may not. (as in my case)

There's no need for words like that on the forum, even if it's not spelled out all the way I know the light is annoying, we all hate seeing bright lights blinding us on the dash, but relax! There is a fix, it's not permanent.
