Help Pulling CEL code

I have a94 Camry LE V6 that shows a check engine light on the dash along with a flashing no overdrive display. I tried to retrieve the code by jumpering the te1 and e1 terminals but the lights do not flash to show the code. The connector is round with a flip down cover under the dash on the left side.
I have done this before on a 92 corolla and I am familiar with the procedure for that car. This one just won't flash to show the code. Any ideas?

I think that the 94 V6 may've been OBD2 -- check for a standard OBD2 connector behind the knick-knack drawer (the flip-out drawer to the left of the steering wheel) -- you need to press a couple of tabs on the inside sides of the drawer in order to pop it out.

I found another connecter in the engine bay on the right side labeled diagnostic above the pcv and jumpered the te1 and e1 terminals but same result no flashing cel. Now when I start the car engine check light is off.

I really want to know what code the ecu put out. Earlier on the freeway The engine hesitated and the revs fluctuated from about 3000 to 2400 rpm's and the check light came on. I also noticed there was a "no overdrive" light flashing when the check light was on. Now however there is no check light ???

It's got OBD II. Take it to an auto parts store and ask them to pull the codes for you. Most of them will do it for free, or let you take the reader out to your car in the parking lot and do it yourself.

The OBD II connector is behind a flip-down door left of the steering wheel and down a bit.

autozone and advance auto parts read the OBD2 codes for free if you can bring the car to them.

OK pulled the codes this morning and P0720 Output speed sensor circuit malfunction. Chart also sas DTC No. P0500 is detected.

I do also have a P0500 code in memory. Vehicle speed sensor malfunction.
Does this mean that my speed sensor went bad (P0500) and will automatically output a P0720?

Yeah, P0720 is just a redundant detection of P0500.

P0500 means that the ECM didn't get a speed sensor signal while you were driving. The signal goes through the combo meter (which cleans it up) before it gets to the ECM. So, it could be the speed sensor, the combo meter, the ECM, or the wiring.

Is your speedo ever acting flakey? A really bad speed sensor should cause your speedo to act up. Might just want to clear the codes and see if it was a hiccup or no.

No my tach or speedo never went intermittent. My wife's Acura had a bad VSS and the tach and speedo went crazy. My car used to intermittently stumble when cruising and I noticed that the tach rpm would drop from around 3000rpm to low 2000. This would happen for a second or two and return to normal. Yesterday it did the same thing but it was the first time it displayed a CEL.
Will bad intermittent VSS on this car cause the engine to stumble and hesitate?

I was looking thru the 94 Camry manual and there are two seperate speed sensors for this car. One is the VSS and the other is the direct clutch speed sensor. Which sensor is causing the code P0720? Code P0720 shows as output speed sensor circuit malfunction.
