96 Camary V6 tranny fill.

So I did a search and I didn't find any information on whether or not I should perform a Transmission fluid change. Is it wise to change the transmission fluid in my 1996 Camry, which has about 92,000 miles? The transmission is not slipping. Car still runs fine.

I bought this car at about 62,000 miles and I don't know if there were previous transmission fluid changes in the past. Thanks for your help!

a fluid change usually doesn't ever do any harm. you'll find differing opinions regarding a tranny flush though.

but I would say, yes, it's a good idea to do a fluid change for preventative maintenance

There is a camp that believes clean ATF will dislodge varnish and cause plugged valve body. But I believe in new ATF 15-30K miles (severe or normal service) for these transmissions. So I'm with those who say to change it.

If you are concerned about it use MityVac to vacuum out 1qt per week or two from the dipstick tube (using a good length of 5/16 PVC tube and brake bleeder cup) and refill with dino Dexron III type ATF like Walmart's SuperTech (nothing fancy for now). And see how the transmission responds after 4 qts.

If you are mechanically inclined go ahead and change out the strainer later and inspect the debris in the pan.
