noob question regarding power steering fluid

Hello.

I just noticed that the power steering fluid in my car is below the MIN mark (when hot, had just driven the car for around half an hour). If MIN is 0, and MAX is 1, then its level is around -0.5.

Q. It is important that I top it off within a day or two or can I wait for some days?

Q. The PS fluid reservoir says "User Dexron Type ATF". Do I have to buy the Toyota band fluid (if it exists) from a dealership? Or can I just use a Dexron ATF of any brand?

On a related note, I have been experiencing some rubbing, or very soft grinding) at certain angles when I turn the steering wheel. It lasts for only a part of the turn and happens a couple of times if I turn the wheel fully to one side from the straight position. Also, when that rubbing is being felt, I can hear a very soft "whoor" sound as I turn the wheel ... I had been mistaking the sound as if the leather parts were rubbing with one another. During this sound, I can also feel the rubbing on the gas pedal. So, I am wondering if that much of a deficiency of PS fluid may cause these symptoms. Any comments?

Thanks.
PS: This is on a 2000 Avalon. Posting here for greater audience.

Any ol' generic Dexron ATF will work fine -- nothing special about the fluid Toyota uses in their PS.

Bit below "min" isn't a crisis, but you want to top off soon so you don't start getting air in the lines.

The sound isn't likely to be from the fluid level. Might be air in the lines, 'tho, if the low fluid is due to a leak in the lines. However, the fact you feel it on the accelerator pedal makes me wonder if there is some mechanical interference going on -- methinks a trip under the rig is in order.
