2000 camry air leak code

Twice in the last two weeks, I got a code for an air leak in the fuel system. I was told it is probably the gas cap causing the issue. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there any other locations in the fuel system that can deteriate and cause a leak? I have had this car for five years and have never gotten this code before (sorry, not sure what the code number is.)

Thanks!

The OBDII is very touchy. It detects Pin-Hole Leaks.

90% of the time, the massive air leak in the fuel system IS caused by a fuel cap. Usually the driver goes to fill up, and will leave the car running while the cap is off, or start the car up with the cap off .. trigger this CEL.

The EVAP system is another spot on the car that will trigger an air loss in the system. The fuel system is designed to hold like 1.0 - 1.5 pounds of air pressure. This is not much, so if it drops because of a leaking cap, or leaking line it will trigger a code.

edit:

Another big cause of the Massive air leak is the Filler tube itself (what the gas cap attaches to). They are made of metal, and are notorious for rusting and getting holes.

Thanks for the reply. I picked up a new gas cap this afternoon. Hopefully it does the trick. I did notice the gasket on the new one is about a 1/16" thicker than the old (hopefully) worn out one.

Thanks again.
