What kind of mileage are you getting?

I did a search thinking certainly this thread already existed but I didn't find it so here goes:

I recently bought my '96 Camry LE automatic 2.2L I4 in an effort to rescue my wallet from my 2000 F-250 4x4 Diesel. After running into a miscalculating odometer (registering likely in km instead of miles) I was unable to figure the mileage on a recent trip to NY. Having discovered the percentage of error I corrected out my trip OD value on the NY trip and calculated 30mpg!!! Is that possible?

I simply filled up, reset trip OD, drove my ass off, filled up again, read and corrected the number on the trip OD, then divided the gallons put in to fill up. Please post if you have data verified this way. I'm floored if this thing is scoring 30mpg!

Thanks,

-BunnMan

Fuel Economy!

If your NY trip was predominantly highway miles and you limit the amount of the starting of your engine from cold, then its very possible.

I avg around 25-29mpg but my commutes are different. If its all highway miles without stopping, you should be able to get 35-39mpgs.

Awesome!!! fueleconomy.gov was WAY off on this one. I think they said 25mpg highway for the 4 banger. I think the 35-39 is a bit unrealistic. My 30mpg trip provided ideal conditions, traveling about 400 early morning (left at 3am) highway miles with no traffic and only one stop for coffee. That 30mpg is enough to impress the heck outta me though...really starting to love this car!
