2001 Solara Engine Damage

My dil car - 2001 Solara - 2.2L 4 clyn engine - drove car with low oil pressure - sounds like connecting rod damage - having a difficult time finding anyone in Tallahassee to repair - either engine replacement or repair - anyone that can give me a brief rundown on whether or not engine has to be removed from engine compartment to replace main journal and connecting rod bearings, seals, etc., I did this twice (successfully) when I was much younger on Honda civic and accord back in the 70’s when my wife and I no money – any help would be appreciated – thank you

Have the motor pulled out and put on a stand. Get a cheap rebuild kit off ebay and u should be good. Get a bottom end kit or just get the rod bearings, rings, piston and any rod that may need replacing and a head gasket. You can also do a timing belt, oil and water pump if you like, since u will have the motor out...depends on how much u want to spend. A full rebuild kit will run around 300-350 depend on what u want in it. Check ebay or google. Take the transmission out with the motor and pull the wiring harness from the ecm. Saves a lot of time. holla back if you need more details.

Thank you for your response - Do the drives have to be removed from differential prior to removing the engine / transmission?

Yes, the passeinger side will slide out pretty easy, don't forget the "carter pin" not sure of the name. It's located there at the rear engine mount....The driver side is usually tough, but if you have a 3ft crowbar and go from the top side (engine) not underneath, it will pop out with a little elbow grease.
