P0401- could VSV filter broke off be the cause?

Recently when I was changing my rear valve cover I managed to break off one of the filters on a VSV. Initially I did not know where it came from so I forgot about it. Now I'm getting a P0401 error code. Could the broken off filter from the VSV be the cause. Here's a picture of the filter.

Yeah that's more than likely you're problem. I'd replace it anyway seeing as it's broken.

There are 3 VSVs on my camry. I think the one I broke is the VSV for the EGR. Are they all the same part number? Or are they different?

Also, dirt gets sucked into the EGR vacuum hoses/intake without this filter. Because of the code my guess is it's the EGR VSV. You probably will have to do some cleaning besides getting a new VSV.

Replaced the VSV. Still getting the P0401 code. I guess I will poke around and see what I can find.

I have the 1mz-fe engine. The EGR VSV is located in front of the manifold under the V-Bank cover.

I cleaned the filter on the EGR vacuum modulator. Now I have to wait to see if the MIL comes back on.

My next step is to test the EGR valve if the MIL comes back on.

The other not-so-smart thing that I did was I re-used the gasket on the EGR pipe. Maybe I have a leak there.
