3rd Generation Stalling at Idle

I have a 1992 Toyota Camry, Automatic, 2.2liter engine with approx 140k miles on it. During the past 2 months i have been having a lot of minor engine problems. While in drive at a stop sign or red light the engine idles well at around 700rpm but upon letting go of the break and pressing the gas the rpm drops down and sometimes this leads to a stall. This rarely but sometimes happen even while just standing at idle, the rpm drops and car stalls. Also while parked and car shifted into park the engine idles around 1.8k rpm but it doesn't idle nicely it drops often to 1k and goes back and forth. New spark plugs, distributor cap, rotor, wires, and fuel filter has been installed without any difference.

Anyone have ideas?

Sounds like a classic vacuum leak downstream of the throttle. I'd check any lines connected into the throttle body downstream of the throttle, and check for cracks or loose fitting at either end.

Oops...forgot about the Idle Air Control valve -- that actually would explain both the stalling coming off of idle, and the excessive and hunting idle speed. Give the throttle body a good cleaning, paying special attention to the IAC openings on either side of the throttle. Check out the DIY at How to: Cleaning Throttle Body -4 Cylinder Engines- With Pictures for some good pointers.

^+1 on the idle air control valve. It seems to be a very common problem.
