IAC sticking

Can a IAC valve be cleaned with throttle body cleaner? It sticks some mornings during cold start. Does it have to be removed or can it be cleaned on the automobile?

you would do a better job cleaning it off the car honestly. More than likely it wont fully clean it just by spraying TB cleaner into the port for the IAC.

Like Mr Perkins sez, you can clean 'er better off the car. OTOH, it's dead easy to clean it on the rig (check the DIYs he referenced), and you can always take it to the next level if need be. The only reason I'd discourage taking the IAC off as a first step is that the phillips-head bolts that hold that sucker on are real easy to strip.

If you use a 90 degree screw driver, it helps to prevent that from happening

That's what i do anyhow

For phillips drive screws that I know are gonna be stubborn, I use one of these:

Link to one of many impact drivers at harbor freight

Cheap and *very* effective. Unless the phillips drive has already been stripped. Then you're SOL.

Here's how I get them off.

You need to get the narrow nose vice grips, the regular ones don't give you enough clearance.

Works every time, and it doesn't matter if the phillips head is stripped or not.

Notice that I replaced the lame phillips with some socket head set screws so the next time I have to get it apart it will be easy.

You can also use regular hex head screws as well. Anything but phillips head screws.

While I was doing a vsv check (rear, under fuel tank), i got the philips screw stripped with just two tries (I used the 90 degree special screw driver from autozone, $2.99). Then I used a vice grip to remove the screw without any issues. Vice grip works in most stripped screw situations, as long as you can reach it.
BTW I saw a long nosed vice grip in harbor freight tools for $8, i think. it may work in this case.

The thread size is M6 x .80 x 16mm.

But if you want to read the whole thread, here 'ya go....

http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/ar.../t-362309.html

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Just a FYI, since I had no idea what the thread was, I right clicked on the image, and then selected "Copy Image Location".

Then go to Google, and type in: site:www.toyotanation.com and then paste in the copied image location like this:

site:www.toyotanation.com http://i787.photobucket.com/albums/y..._vice_grip.jpg

Google did it's thing and returned the thread. Pretty slick.
