3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I found out the power steering pressure hose is leaking on my mothers 99 camry.
I'm checking online parts dealer like RockAuto I've gotten parts for my jeep off them in the past.
The problem I'm having is identifying the make of car she has. How do you tell if its a CE,LE or XLE and what type of motor it is? They have a few different 4 cylnder versions. I checked the car door tag and all it says is made in japan? I dont want to order the wrong part.
My jeep has all this information in the manual and on the door. Her manual is general and doesn't specify the model or any specifics.
The car was purchased new in 99 in Canada.

More than likely this is the Japan Version of the 99 Camry. What options does it have .. this will help determine the trim level.
If it has power windows/mirrors, non-power cloth seats, cruise control, Automatic, rear drums more than likely its a LE
If it has manual windows/mirrors, non-power cloth seats, Manual transmission, rear drums more than likely its a DLX or DX
If it has Power windows/mirrors, power leather seats, sunroof, ABS, mirror heaters, Aluminum rims, rear Disc Brakes more than likely its an XLE.
Since you have the Canadia version, it probably has running lights on all the time i'm guessing. You can always write down the VIN Number and call your toyota and give them the last 8 of the vin and they will let you know what trim level it is and what options it came with!
I went around to some parts places in town the pressure hose is $162.00 both parts places say there is no difference between the models? This is strange because when I searched Rock auto for instance they showed no stock for a 4 cyl engine with no DOHC, but they did have the hose for the 4cyl with DOHC. Some other places show they stock the part for say the LE but not the CE.Some also said they had some for North American made but not Japenese made? Thats what was confusing me.
Is the pressure hose connected to the top of the PS pump or the bottom?
The pump has two lines connected both are just clipped on not threaded. Thats odd for a high pressure hose isn't it? My Jeeps are threaded.
Unfourtanetly I won't be able to have a closer look at it for a couple of days. The line is leaking through a hairline crack down by the driverside CV joint. I did a quick trace and it looks like it goes upto the top of the pump.
I've been looking for a schematic of the pump with its hoses. I didnt have any luck. Does anyone know where I could find one? I cant even find a Haynes manual in town every Camry but for my year 99 is stocked.

If your not sure exactly what trim it is....... Call Toyota with the vin number in hand and they will tell u what it is.
I was giving him examples of what features certain models typically came with. All cara had optional equipment though so car to car, year to year it can be different. Toyota can tell u what options the car came with just by looking it up.
Also the trim level ; le dx xle etc...
