3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I have toyota camry 94 coupe V6 engine. I changed my power steering fluid a month ago, after that time onwards I have been experiencing a problem of click sound when I turn my steering wheel sharply towards right. This sound doesn't appear at the highway when I am turning but only appears at the situation when I am driving less than 5 miles and I turn right sharply. The sound is more like - "tak tak tak tak tak". I dont know what the problem is and what to do for troubleshooting. I also want to know if this case is serious and whether or not I can drive my car without fixing it!
Also, before the sound came in there was a puff sound(loud one) when I turned my car towards right. I pull over my car into my parking lot and saw there was nothing wrong but that time onwards I had the clicking sound coming into my car.
When I think "Puff Sound" I think air .. is this a correct thought process ? or are you trying to describe a different sound.
Your best bet would be to run the car up onto some car ramps, and grab a hold of the axles. If they are in-deed bad, then when you push straight up and pull down next to where the rubber boots are (but grabbing a hold of the center axle piece) and it pops up and down quite a bit, your axle is going to need replaced. If they are tight, then you have another issue.
It was alike the sound as if when a car hits another car.
The puff sound came before and after that it was followed by the click sound(after puff sound was heard, then started the problem of click sound on the steering wheel of the car)

Well, I would still do what I said above as far as driving the car onto ramps and checking the axles. if they move up and down, they are bad. They will move side to side a little, so dont let that scare ya
Just a wild guess, but the puff noise maybe was the CV boot ripping open? Like others have said, take a look under there and see if that's what it is. If the boot's torn you'll find heavy sticky black grease spewed all over the wheel/brake/suspension area.

I took my car to the mechanic yesterday and he told me that the car was fine. He told me that supposedly the sound was due to low pressure in power steering pump. Also, the puff might have happened due to low pressure. I dont know and right now the car is not making sound at all. Strange!
