Power Steering

So my friend decided to top off my ps with just regular ps fluid, around 12oz were put into the reservoir. I have read a lot about the mixing of ATF and PS but would like just a straight forward answer. Should I flush my system 100%? Can I just empty reservoir and top off and repeat after a certain amount of miles? Best ATF for this situation?

Thank you for answer and I apologize if it is a repetitive post, I have searched.

Was the PS fluid listed as being compatible with your car? Lots of times, about the only difference between PS fluid and ATF is the lack of red dye in the PS fluid. It's not like the PS system is particularly picky -- as long as it's a hydraulic fluid of more-or-less the right viscosity that doesn't eat your hoses, you're OK.

Don't do the opposite, 'tho -- auto trannies do tend to be particular about the fluid you drop into them. And they abuse their fluids a lot more than the PS system does.

You can do this:

using Walmart's SuperTech Mercon-V, Castrol Import Multi-vehicle ATF, or Mobil-1 ATF. I wouldn't use dino Dexron III type ATF because of the small price difference.

The ps fluid will harm your seals. I would pull off the return line on the ps rack that goes back to the reservoir and start the car up and turn the steering wheel side to side collecting it in a container. Topping the reservoir off with ATF as it goes down. Do this until the ps fluid has dissipated

I used PS fluid to top off and it has nearly destroyed my passenger side PS rack boots! I am having a nightmare driving my beloved car with the sweltering summer heat. I have already used 1.5 bottles of Lucas stop leak and it worked fine in the winter. But summer ...no way...I have to find some ATF fluid that "stays thick" at ~150 degrees. Always use synthetic DEX-II/MERC for the Power steering on Gen 3 camrys.
