3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Is there any other engine that would fit my 2.2L 4Cyl. 5 Speed 1993 Camry not that theres anything wrong with the engine it has, its just that i want to upgrade to something with lower mileage and more power if possible. Also i don't mind having to modding if necessary.
you can literally fit any kind of motor in there you want, if your willing to do modifications. You could probably fit a Supra motor in there if you had the $$$ and time to modify everything
Drop in would be 5SFE, 1MZ and 3VZ. There's also the JDM 2.0 (3SFE?)
I've heard that a lot but where would i be able to find those engines, like which models came with them.
Sorry for the newbie question, this is my first Toyota .
Both have 5 spd options if you can find the transmissions.
The supra engine (1jz-fe, 1jz-fte, 2jz-fe, or the 2jz-fte) would not be an option. There is too much work and that point you would need to do custom frame work to get it in. Then if you don't do it right you would twist the body /frame. Not worth it unless you were infinitly rich.
And the muffler would be able to handle it, its the cat that most likely wouldn't.

right , I was just letting him know that anything is possible with money. Never say you can't put any motor in a car, because someone will show you that , "Yes in fact you can". lol.
It makes more sense to just swap a motor with what you have. Even if you swap a v6 in a 4cylinder car, its really not too much more work involved. Just changing mounts, harnesses, cluster, ecu, fans, etc.. along with the motor/trans.
