3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I removed the air intake for replacing the rear three spark plugs, hooked everything up correctly afterward, but the car will not start. It cranks great but there is no ignition. I removed also the cold start assembly and the whole thing it attached to, sprayed it out and reattached it all tot he air intake during the spark plug replacements.
Any ideas? The car is a 95 V6 SE, manual transmission.
I finally had to have the my pretty 93 SE towed to Toyota and they found (after getting no codes) that the Idle Air Control valve had broken inside, and it was putting collant into the throttle body. That of course was going right into the engine! Fortunately, no hydraulic lock.
But the price of the new IAC valve --- are you sitting down? --- was $643.00!
I feel that although they did a great job in finding the problem, the price is , how to put it, rather high.
Does anyone know the average price of this puppy? Here's the part # 2227062020.

Yeah, that sucker is a mite spendy...given how reliable they are, I'd tend to lean towards a junkyard pull if I had to do a replacement. Not really an option at the dealership, 'tho.
But I can not get over that the dealership charged almost $200 on top of these prices!
What an expensive lesson. I should have supplied my own new one and have told the dealer to hold off on getting me that part.
Lesson #2: Get the price of the new part from the dealer and tell them wait; beat that price; supply your own New Stock, Toyota part, That way, that dealer can't squeal that the part is an aftermarket piece of unknown.
