Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I got my car almost 5 years ago now with a leaking Y-pipe. Everything is all fine and dandy until i last did my oil change. i noticed that mesh material is starting to turn black (here we go again). so i'm wondering if i see my local exhaust shop to get that stuff replaced if possible or just say f it and get one custom made by somebody and have my car sound like shit.
Geez Louise -- I'm still on my first flex after 15+ years. With all the lawyers you guys have out east, why not turn loose a herd of them sueing the highway depts out there until they stop spreading salt on the roads? That crap has destroyed more cars in their prime than anything else I could name.
The reason why im a bit steamed is i bought that Y-pipe NEW from toyota. but i'll admit, the last 2 winters here have been horrendous.
78.7 inches+ 09-10
and alot this past winter
Chances are the pipe you bought wasnt true oem. Dealerships get stuffed delivered from the regular auto part stores. I see the local delivery truck leaving the dealers all the time.
Bigger stuff on especially older cars (5 years or so is considered old for the dealer...) isnt made by the same manufacture it originally was. New flex pipe weld in shouldent cost more then 80$ so your in luck.
if your motor is moving a lot (especially if you drive a manual transmission), you're putting additional wear on your flexpipe every time the motor rocks back and forth

yea your probably hitting the nail on the head on this one. i changed the dogbone a while ago but i still get a clunk when i let the clutch out.
So far 18 years on my original y-pipe, flex section. It shows absolutely no signs of wear or rust. Up hear in Calgary, Alberta we have crazy winters, snow like crazy, melt like crazy (Chinook weather event), then repeat. They dump tons of gravel and salt on the roads for 6 months of the year! Mind you, I still have the old Auto transmission.
